The Tampa Bay Times

Inshore anglers wanting a fresh fish dinner continue to have limited options with the closed seasons still in place. Fortunately, your best bets for a meal also happen to be the best tasting fish in the bay. Sheepshead and snapper top the list and are often found in the same locations.  The addition of flounder, that are typically found on the perimeter of these spots, round out a worthy menu selection.  One species that is often overlooked this time of year is silver trout.  They can be plentiful off our beaches in 12-16 feet of water or found in deeper holes and turning basins inside the bay.  There are no closed seasons or size limits on silver trout so self-restraint is necessary to only keep the larger ones, and only enough for a fresh meal that evening as they do not freeze well.  Target silver trout with tandem rigged jigs to catch two at a time.  As far as the closed seasons on spotted sea trout, redfish, and snook is concerned, I personally hope that they would remain no take species.
