Our Fish Picture of the Week!

This Sailfish was caught in 140' of water off Anna Maria Island last month on a live greenback. We were fishing for snapper and grouper when a nice school of dolphin showed up around the boat. I always keep spinning rods ready so we loaded them with live bait and immediately caught several dolphin.

After a few minutes 2 sailfish showed up in the mix and we are able to cast a live bait to one and got a good hookup. We were using Fin-Nor spinning tackle with 25 lb yellow Power Pro line with 10 feet of 50lb mono leader and a 5/0 circle hook. We billed the the fish and released it in about 25 minutes.

This was my 16 year old nephew, Joel Edwards, first sailfish so we didn't horse him to the boat. The fish was hooked in the jaw and healthy when released. Thanks for all your efforts in the fishing community over the years.

Best Regards,

Capt. David Edwards
Apollo Beach, Florida

What a beautiful species! And what a great idea of taking a picture of the sailfish in the water, enabling a safe release As his prize, Capt. David will receive a "Capt. Mel MirrOlure assortment" of some of the most  productive, fish-catching plugs to share.
