Our Fish Picture of the Week! Hi Captain Mel:
This cobia was caught by my friend Rod Griffin while fishing the Tampa Bay shipping channel. The fish is 37" to the fork and once hooked made two spectacular leaps, spraying water in the air and ripping line off the reel, before sounding and then waging a 12 to 15 minute fight on spinning tackle spooled with 20 lb braided line and 30 lb fluorocarbon leader. The bait was a 6" threadfin herring on a 4/0 hook. This is Rod's very first keeper cobia and he's thrilled!
Thank you -
Tony Noriega, Tampa
