It’s hard to get excited about offshore fishing when winter cold fronts move in. Currently, a weather system has the gulf a little too sloppy to venture out past the sea buoy. A pattern of cold fronts will plague us for the next few weeks, each containing just enough wind that getting offshore might be a challenge. But between the fronts, expect some exceptional fishing. During a front, because of rough seas, most fish will try to find structure to hide behind. When conditions improve try fishing near some of those structures. The best fishing, however, will be just before a front hits our area. Plan your outing carefully. The weather may look good from the beach, yet offshore might not be so wonderful. Be careful to not get caught in a rapidly changing sea. Don’t lose hope — better weather is coming.
