A late-season run of pompano has people talking. The challenge? Finding days with light enough winds to fish. Pompano are one of our most sporting fish and easily one of the best for the dinner table. Pompano have been excellent size this year. They are best targeted with pompano jigs and teasers. I like the yellow jig and pink teaser. The teaser is a small fly, loop-knotted to the weighted jig. I build flash into my pink teasers. Use a jig with enough weight to easily get down to the bottom based on your situation. The situations: the passes and the bridges. The bridges have great opportunities now. For best results, sink your jig/teaser down against the pilings or pads. You want to hop the lure up and down off the bottom. The act of jigging sets the hook on pompano. As winter progresses, pompano targeting gets better an hour south in Sarasota Bay.
