July is here and the heat is in full force. That has not slowed the fishing as the bite is hot. One of my favorite fish to target this time of year is mangrove snapper. You will find plenty on just about every wreck or reef. This matched with light tackle spinning gear makes for some awesome fishing. The key with snapper is to get plenty of chum bait to draw them off the bottom. Use little to no weight matched with 20-pound leader and a No. 1 circle hook. Snook fishing will be very good through the summer. Expect to catch plenty of small snook with a good chance to get a trophy fish from time to time. Tarpon season has been tough, but the bay tarpon are also showing up. Picking the right tides is key for the silver kings.
