Mosquito Lagoon Redfish caught by Phil Rohrhoff

Well after being off the water for a week attending the ICAST Convention in Orlando, I wasn’t sure what to expect on my return to the Lagoon.  I met my client at the dock at 0530 and we departed for the flats of Tiger Shoals.

The sky was just showing some light as we entered the Lagoon from the Haulover Canal and we were faced with a strong south wind of about 15k.   I knew before we even got started it was going to be a tough day.  After reaching the Troll Pole Zone I polled us into the east shoreline, but no tailing fish were seen or caught, so I returned to the deeper water where I found a few big fish the week before, and again no luck.  On a last ditch effort, we reposition the skiff to another location and with the assistance of angling friend, It’s always good to have friends on the water, we started catching very respectable fish.  In the next half hour Phil boated four fish of a lifetime, three big redfish and one very respectable black drum, all caught on cracked blue crab.

As always, if you have questions or need infirmation, please contact me.

Good luck and good fishing,

Captain Tom Van Horn
