Look at floating crab trap buoy’s and poles or pylons to target a wave of fresh triple tail. My charters have yet to see one or catch one this week but a few lucky anglers are catching some nice keepers. The ones who are catching them are saying outgoing tide has been the most productive. If you do spot a triple tail, try to continue past them. After the vessel is a long cast away use a cork with a 18” leader and 1/8th jig head with a tail hooked shrimp. Cast this rig so that it drifts within a three foot radius of the structure and watch for the fish to swim towards the cork to take the bait.
There is good action north west of the Bird Rack on the rocky bottom. Using glow or dark colored soft plastics on a 1/8th oz. jig head work the lures in a vertical motion for the best results. There are trout, spanish mackerel, blue fish, sea bass, flounder and small gag grouper. Good moving water or light wind make for the best fishing.
The big trout and a few redfish are on the western facing points on the inshore keys. The best bite is high incoming tide. High incoming tide will be early morning this weekend. Capt. William Toney www.homosassainshorefishing.com
