I can feel the turn of the seasons is right upon us. Spring is close because I see the Osprey’s building they’re nest and at daylight I hear a new song of Florida birds singing. I’m no bird expert but the tune the birds are singing is one I’ve listened to my whole life and have seen the trees that they take to start to have green buds. This is a good time of year. All we need is the Gulf waters to warm just a hair and Mother Nature will perform it’s rebirth again.
I’ve been catching trout in the mid section of the rivers. If you were to draw a line between Hell’s Gate in the Homosassa River and just east of Walsh Island in Crystal River all the country in-between is the area to fish for trout. I have done well with MirrOlure MirrOdines, live shrimp and D.O.A. CAL Shads in glow/gold rush belly. Look for deep pockets of water with shallow surrounding flats.
Red fishing is good on high water during the incoming tide. The Ozello Keys have been the best area and live shrimp the best bait. This full moon should be the best of the year for sheepshead and rocks out at 8 to 12 feet is the best area’s to fish. Live shrimp will get the bite. High incoming tide will be mid morning this weekend with a full moon. Capt. William Toney www.homosassainshorefishing.com
