One of the largest fishing Tournaments on the Nature Coast is happening this weekend. The 35th annual Cobia “Big Fish” Tournament will be this Saturday and Sunday, June 8th & 9th. The tournament is limited to 200 vessels that at this time is full. You do not have to be an angler to get in on the fun, Saturday there will be a Bar-B- Que Dinner from 3p to 7p at MacRae’s of Homosassa and on Sunday will be a Fish Fry and Awards starting at 2p.  On the offshore scene nice catches of red snapper are coming to the dock. The season is open at this time for charter boats with a reef permit. The report on gag grouper is a mix of slow bite but good conditions for spear fishing. One angler I spoke with said after bottom fishing for more than an hour they put on tanks and shot two gags over 30 inches.  Inshore the red fish bite has been good on the incoming tide using live shrimp or pin fish. Look for trout over hard bottom in 4 to 6 foot of water or rock grass patches about the same depth. Incoming tide will be early morning or late afternoon this weekend.
