With new sea trout regulations set to take place in all regions of Florida, I believe it will benefit all anglers throughout our state. Back at the beginning of May. I got up at 4 am to drive to Havana to voice my opinion about the proposed trout regulations in our region that were to drop from 5 fish per angler to 3. To let everyone know the Homosassa Guides Association has been a believer in only client or for hire take, no captains take. With the new rule it will enhance our fishery and save many big female trout to reproduce top quality fish in the Big Bend region. The no captains take will help guides let clients know it is against the law. At Havana during the meeting I attended, I felt the FWC board listen to me. It was a great experience and anyone who has a reason to speak about rules with hunting or fishing it worth your while to go to the commission meetings.  With the new rule coming to our region at 4 fish per angler between 15 to 19 inches and one fish per vessel over 20 with no captains take is a big win for the Big Bend. Soon we will be reaping the benefits from a already great trout fishery. That 30 inch trophy trout will become a reality on the Nature Coast. I caught one in the early 90’s in Dekle Beach but since then only one at about 26 inches has been in my boat.  Look for great trout, redfish and snook fishing this weekend early morning during the incoming tide with a outgoing mid morning.
