Redfish schools are showing up and will only get better as we approach fall. In this photo, Trevor from North Florida displays a healthy upper slot redfish caught in Tampa Bay with Capt. Travis Yaeckel.

With this week I’ve had family come out and help my two girls, fiance and I move back into generational land that has been ours since the early nineteen hundreds. Being close to mom’s love and cooking, dad’s land management with wisdom and sisters who are strong, my life is about as good as one could ask. I have to say living and dieing where you grew up is a honer.

Fishing on the Nature Coast is a giver this time of year. Our bread and butter is trout and redfish inshore, offshore grouper, kingfish and cobia will put a bend in the rod. Inshore for the Fall fishing forecast look for a great redfish bite on the outer points and keys. Live bait will always catch the fish but with the grass free surface try your luck with soft plastic jigs, gold spoons and top water baits. Incoming tide with jumping mullet on the points or keys is the best time and place to fish. The trout bite is very good on the very close in flats. Look for kelp grass or live bottom with sponges, hard coral and rock grass for the best bite, Popping corks with soft plastics will get the action going. High outgoing tide is the best bite. Snook have become our new targeted fish and local guides have them as part of they’re fishing day. Triple tail should be making a appearance very soon with the trap’s from the stone crabbers that are about to hit the Gulf. Look for incoming high tide this weekend in the morning. W
Capt. William Toney is a full time 4th generation fishing guide from Homosassa. Experience some of Florida’s best inshore fishing and beautiful unspoiled backcountry. His boat is a custom built 23 foot Tremblay and uses G-Loomis rods with Shimano reels. Trout, redfish and shore lunch are Capt. Williams specialty’s but many other species are caught or targeted.
