Well, it’s on in Panama City Beach! April is shaping up to be a great month to be on the water. The temperature is just right, the water is warming up each day, and we have had some beautiful sunny weather! Not to mention the fishing has been great. There is plenty of bait up in the bayou’s, the fish are starting to move into their spring patterns and the fishing on the flats, in the bay’s, and offshore will just keep getting better.

There have been several Cobia caught as well as some nice Kings that have begun moving in nearshore and just off the beaches. Spanish Mackerel are still being caught in the bays in 10-15’ of water along drop offs as well as off the beach. Up on the flats the Speckled Trout bite has been good with some really nice catches being reported. Top water is my favorite method unless the big girls are up shallow and then sight fishing is my method of choice.

Some pretty big schools of Red fish can still be found cruising the flats along with plenty of Reds spread out over the grass flats. Look for a good combination of grass and sandy areas next to deep water as well as working the banks on the higher tides. With the sunny clear skies we have had some incredible days of sight fishing. Sight fishing for Red fish with spinning gear or fly tackle is an absolute must for those looking for a true fishing challenge and one heck of an adrenaline rush! Off course, this time of year sight fishing off the beach for Cobia and big Jack Crevalle will also provide you with some serious fun.

Basically, April is just an awesome month to get out and enjoy a day on the water whether you are fishing, boating, or just kicking back on the beach.

Good luck!
