It is getting the time of year where we are having negative tides and the strong Northeast wind is really blowing the water out. Don’t get discouraged by this. This will give you the opportunity to find new fishing areas that you may have never known about. You can find oyster bars that you may have never seen before. Deep troughs will also be visible. Look for troughs just off of the flats that are exposed. The fish will need to go somewhere and they are usually piled up there.

The Snook bite continues to be on fire. They must be preparing for winter. The best bite has been on the incoming tide. You will find them piled up in the deeper holes off the grass flats. As the tide rises, they will move towards the mangrove line.

We are catching plenty of small Redfish fishing the docks and mangrove line on high water. The bait of choice has been live shrimp threaded on a jig head. Pinching the tail off the shrimp will put a nice scent in the water which will allow the Redfish to track it down.

If the winds are down and you are able to get offshore, then you should be pretty successful. The Red Tide is finally starting to clear out and you don’t have to travel as far to find clean water. I have been told that the Mangrove Snapper, Hog Snapper, and grouper bite is really going off. Small tuna are hanging on the most popular wrecks. Mix in some Kingfish action and you should have a blast.
