Mosquito Lagoon Black Drum Fishing Report, May 9, 2016

POSTED ON MAY 10, 2016 IN FISHING REPORTS

Although the weather was very fine this week, I only fished one charter on the Mosquito Lagoon.  The rest of my time was spent celebrating my 35 year wedding anniversary with my lovely bride Sandi at the Hammock Beach Resort in Flagler Beach.  She’s been my partner and friend for over half of my life, and I’m blessed to have her by my side.

On my charter yesterday i was honored to have father and son team Nick and George Mastrascusa and Nick’s uncle George Lurati from Miami on board for a day of black drum fishing on the Mosquito Lagoon.  After meeting Nick and his crew at 6am, we were on the water and fish before the mosquitos quit biting and ended up catching five black drum in the first two hours as well as an assortment of other species. Special note:  They do not call it Mosquito Lagoon for nothing.  if you visit the Lagoon before daylight, be sure you bring some bug spray.

Currently the weather conditions look good for the remainder of the week, and as the seas continue to settle down, the tarpon and other near-shore species will become the center of my attention.

As always, if you need more information or have any questions, please contact me.

Good luck and good fishing,

Captain Tom Van Horn
