We are in a great Fall bite right now. Last Friday my party of two limited out with trout and redfish in just over an hour making an easy day for me to get out early to the hunting woods for opening day of archery Saturday. I had a great hunt but no venison yet. With slightly cooler air this week it will make it a pleasant time on the water and the woods.

For good redfish action the outside points of keys are producing good redfish and snook action using live pinfish. Another good area is the Spoil Banks in Crystal River. It can get crowded out there but during the week is a better bet to stay away from the crowds. Live pinfish is the best live bait and working the edges with a dark soft plastic can produce the inshore slam with redfish, snook and trout.

South of Homosassa has been good for trout on the outgoing tide. I’ve been using a MirrOlure watermelon red flake LiL John on a 1/8 oz. red jig head under a popping cork. I have my anglers work the baits ahead of our drift and when we catch a few in a row I stick to that area. Rock grass patches are key to finding them. This weekend the incoming tide will be midday.
