Coming down to crunch time for scalloping this will be the last weekend until next season. It will close September 24th when many outdoor folks are focusing on archery season, some who would like to beat the heat and put some tasty scallops in the freezer are going to capitalize on the light crowds. The scallop’s are at their peak in size of meat, I’ve experienced some past season’s with hurricanes that ended it before the last day but not this year. The best area is just north west of marker # 6 off the Homosassa channel.

Fishing has been good with the nearshore rocks catching mangrove snapper, spanish mackerel and big grunts. With the extremely humid hot weather this is some of the best action in our area. Free lined live shrimp is the best bait. Snook fishing continues to be good but most fish are on the short side. The keepers I’ve caught have been on live pinfish. Trout fishing has been best west of marker #2 using MirrOlure LiL Johns in watermelon redflake. A few good sized black sea bass are mixed in. High incoming tide will be midday this weekend.
