Light east winds for several days now have made for perfect beach tarpon fishing conditions. This past week we saw the first big schools of fish start to come thru.                                                                                       Although it’s been a little slower than last year to this point expect the flow of fish to really pick up over the next two weeks. Corked threadfins and pinfish have been producing when kept out                                   in the lane of approaching fish. Be sure to have a few crabs on hand to cast at those schools of fish that stay in a general area and pop up every couple of minutes.

This week’s new moon will bring us the big tides tarpon anglers love. Afternoon outgoing tides will have the crabs flushing from the bay, look for big schools of tarpon to be hanging around            Egmont Key and Bean point. Free-lining crabs works best on the outgoing tides while chumming the fish to the boat with small pieces of fresh threadfins works well on the incoming tide.

Water temperatures are still a bit cool for the time of year which is a major bonus for flats anglers. Redfish and snook can be found patrolling the mangrove shorelines of                                                                           Tampa bay. Afternoon high tides this week will have the fish pushed up under the trees where they can be chummed into a frenzy with live pilchards.
