The University of Arizona alumni club for Florida, west coast, I am president (again).   Did it for years before walking away.   The guy who took over for me had kids and he was dead in the water, so I took it back over.   That’s a party at my house coming up.    First party:  Postponed because of the fake virus.   Hopes are that we will have special guests at gatherings.  Gronk.   Annika Sorenstam.   Wendy Ryan.   All possibilities.

The Wearing a Mask debate.    I wore one of my buffs anytime out weeks ago.    I just got to thinking about it.   I don’t get near anyone.  And I don’t have the virus.  So why do I need to wear a mask?  You have the virus, what are you doing out in public??

The next one at my house:  Umpires.    An umpire reunion scheduled for my place.   It is taking shape.   Shea is bringing a monster grill and a pig.    The attendance appears to be excellent.

The internet: “This is like a sheepshead.”  Well, it’s a black drum.   If you can’t see that’s a black drum, you don’t need to go fishing anymore.    Sorry:   It isn’t that hard.  The English language continues to take a beating.     It’s like people don’t care.  They don’t wish to appear intelligent.

The times, they are changing but some things are still the same.   I still have pompano teasers and now, pompano flies:  Available for sale.    You don’t buy them; they just stay with me.    I don’t care.  I think it’s odd.     People just don’t do things the way I do.   I have two rods left.  And, basically, no one buys them in the next two weeks, I’m putting reels on them and keeping them.     Bags of lures, also available.

Fisherman’s Night resumed after a Covid break.    Great time.   Not a great turnout but a lot of people were out of town.     The grill fired up, the drinks pouring.    It was good to have it back again.   There are opportunities for the guy that needs to add to his fishing gear.    One guy is bringing his wife, something I’ve encouraged for a long time.    The regulars, they will be here.   Someone who needs to know more people to fish with around here, this is the event for you.

NASDAQ and the big boards:   Doing well overall.     A pandemic didn’t completely kill this economy.   I am looking forward to getting back in again when the time is right.

The looting last month.   Stupid.    More people caught.    Just idiotic.   Maybe it’s just how I was raised.   If it doesn’t belong to me, I don’t touch it.    Breaking windows and taking the merchandise:  No respect for the businessman.

Protests and dismantling of stuff:   How about Mount Rushmore?   Shouldn’t that be taken down??

This misplaced hatred:  Officers responded to a potential ‘suicide by hanging’ under a Jacksonville overpass Saturday morning but discovered it was actually a mannequin dressed in a police uniform wearing a pig mask.    You want to hate the police:  You’re on your own.    The police are my preferred friends.   Your hatred of the police, I will never understand.   I’d be more for more funding of the police, not less.     I see the videos.   Police handling situations.    It’s sensationalism:  Every single video, the police are using proper procedure.   They never say that.   They are trying to paint the police as too aggressive.   Well, gotta tell you, if you choose policeman as your profession:   You are going to be in some scuffles.       I entered that when I was an umpire.    The general public that wants to dislike the police and call them incompetent:    You are idiots.

The offended:   Maple syrup?     Come on.    Tearing down artwork, statues.   Changing labels.    Is it really necessary?   How weak of a society have we become?

Voting rights for felons.    I watched on TV as they had the Democrats on talking about how felons need to be able to vote.      I don’t see it.    When you commit certain crimes against society, you shouldn’t have a vote while incarcerated.   OK, you’ve served your time and you’re out, then you can vote again.

The border wall fell be the wayside.   Maybe that’s a term 2 project?

Pretty good start to the rainy season but drier for a while than I’d have expected.   It looks like nothing then something pops up.    It’s summer.   I’d like more rain for my shrubs.    More rain:  I don’t have to turn the hose on.    I’m teetering on the idea of turning the hose on.     The forecast:  Fairly dry.    July:  Likely wetter.  August, usually rainy a lot of the time.   I hope I have turned on the hose for the last time.   June, might not be as wet as the rest of the summer.   July for sure.    August, hopefully.   September is usually starts to drop off.    Aside from hurricane rains.      And hurricanes, how are we going to do with those this year?    I stocked up on my hurricane supplies.     I’ll have enough to drink for three hurricanes and I keep adding to it every trip to the store.

Fishing:  The phone keeps ringing.   I keep taking people to catch fish.  Special requests.  Regular trips.   It’s all good.  Finally, some out of state people.   With the latest news, will that kill travel again?

Trout:  Easy.   Pompano are beginning to arrive where I normally find them.   Last year they were OFF.  This year, so far, nothing exceptional.  But we did start getting some.    My hopes are that they load up like they did the three previous years.    Didn’t do as much pompano fishing earlier in my guiding career but they have filled a major gap a few years recently.

The tarpon showed up like a month late.    We saw several hundred one day.   The big ones.   I don’t tangle with them.   But I told Tommy where they are.    He should get into them.    It will be a few days, but he’s going to go where I saw them.    Will my tarpon flies work??

Casey brought shrimp.   Put him on old Skyway rubble.    Snapper, right out of the gate.    Then mackerel.     Not as good as it could be but he had action.   We shifted over to the pompano hole.     There were a few there.

Some instructional trips coming up where the catching isn’t as important as the lessons.  But, the way things are, we should be able to accomplish both.   No question:   I’m excited about the trips coming up.   In July, it may get tougher.    To me, it is good that June is wearing down.     There is a lot of summer left but getting through June is always kind of a victory if you ask me.
